About
A what?
A suture zone refers to a linear belt formed by the convergence of two tectonic plates, frequently leading to a wealth of mineral diversity and distinctive geological characteristics. At Suture Zone, we aspire to document the wealth of cultural slag that forms when momentous events take place. We seek to show the work that falls through the cracks, the results of abrasive forces of any system whether physical or mental, on the artist's point of view.
Suture Zone is an initiative of Canadian artist Adam "Jingo" Strange in collaboration with artist Jacqui "JaKiwi" Kipfer. Suture Zone has been created to fill a perceived gap in the art world in which artists with a message of social change are caught in a space of galleries not addressing global, political and existential issues or a lack of media outlets for promotion and dissemination of critical artistic responses to the despotism growing in the world.
Our inaugural project is the presentation of contemporary art in reaction to the distressing times in which we live. Under this broad general theme, Suture Zone will select art two times a year and display this work on our website and social channels with accompanying text and information. Selected artists receive an individual profile web page on the Suture Zone site.
The second part of the project is to generate a yearly printed catalogue of some of the most impactful pieces to represent that year.
